As you may infer by my original username (floydpinkerton), I'm kind of a fan of The Wall's protagonist (even though, by Roger's account, he seems to be a bit of a self-absorbed and highly unstable loser).
Personally, I've long since ('long since' as in before I even knew much about the Floyd) riffed on the idea of Pink as the 'soul' of all of Pink Floyd's work, as if 'Pink Floyd' were an actual character invoked by Roger, David, Rick, Nick, And Sometimes Syd, and not just an offhand comment made by people who didn't know better; because (despite Roger's best efforts to establish Himself As The Band) when it comes down to it, Pink Floyd is one of those bands where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. (All the best bands are like that, in my [admittedly limited] experience. )
What this means in practical terms is that when I wish to draw pictoral counterparts for Pink Floyd songs, Pink is my go-to protagonist. I don't have to get into all the nit and git of drawing the real people behind the music, because the character design for a nebulous representation of a highly progressive/experimental/adventurous band is bound to be more elastic than just drawing, say, David Gilmour; besides, the band themselves always felt that showing the actual people behind the music would have been a very feeble way to express/interpret the magnificent imagery presented by the music itself. (They're really four* very ordinary geezers, apart from their musical abilities.)
For my character design, I didn't actually do a composite drawing of all five members (that would have been taking things a bit far, even for a Crazy Diamond ); instead, I just drew on the fact that Roger created The Wall based on his personal experiences and Syd's story, and tried to combine the features of the two Pink Rogers.
My very first sketch was posted in the 'Fab Pink Floyd Images' thread. I've since done many sketches, and further follow-ups will probably be posted here.
*'Syd' and 'ordinary' do not belong in the same sentence.
