So, I watched the movie The Wall tonight. Has anyone else here seen it?
I must say, I've got mixed feelings about it. The music was great of course that's out of question but the actual movie itself... It seemed to me as if there were many great ideas, after all, the story is awesome and many visualisations consisted of really haunting metaphors. But in the end, there were just too many great ideas on their own and no connections. The whole movie felt like one special effect after the other and after a while, it got incredibly tiring and frankly a bit boring. Maybe, it could've worked if it had been a bit more like a stream of consciousness but the way it was done it just felt like a desperate attempt to include as many clever ideas as possible in the movie without keeping in mind that constant stimulation without a development dulls the watcher.
That being said, I think that The Wall certainly had its moments. Nobody Home, Comfortably Numb, and The Trial really stuck out. They were great visualisations of the respective's songs atmospheres and lyrics. All in all, it's just another brick in the wall though, I prefer my own imaginations to every song except The Trial, because that one was indeed brilliant.
However, I don't regret having watched it once and Bob Geldof is one hell of an actor, he should win an Oscar for that performance.
