New video of Childhood's end. This and more was released in the new box set. This music video offers a cool glance at the band during a really great period, so I definetly recommend watching it.

^ I liked it This is quite a good album, in my opinion -- especially as it was recorded in the midst of recording their bleedin' masterpiece! 'Oh, yeah, we're in the middle of making possibly the best album ever, but we'll take a short break to go and do this also great album.' It's often overshadowed by the aforementioned masterpiece (Obscured By DSOTM, a s it were), but it is a solid piece of work, and contains many hints of great things to come. The band's sound is tighter, Roger's lyrics are sharper, and the album generally sounds like a band on the cusp of greatness; yet it still has that 'mellow/early' sound that I'm so very fond of -- Dark Side does as well, to a certain extent, but that album is a lot more polished and the concept rules, as it does on later albums.
Favourite song here has to be 'Wots... Uh The Deal' or 'Burning Bridges'. I love that Rick sings a good bit on this album.
syd gilmour, if you could just add this thread to the calendar for 2 June? I think you edit the first post and do the 'Add to Calendar' bit.

This video has some awesome photos of the album recording. I particularly love Nick wrapped in tape and Rick playing with a yo-yo.

^^^ What a bunch of cuties! Also, I must say, I like Roger's shoes. I wonder what colour they were.

I like this album, some of the songs are garbage, but the others...
...ARE AWESOME! I mean, Wot's... Uh The Deal and The Gold's In The... are gorgeous songs that make the whole album enjoyable.

Happy 45th, Obscured By Clouds! I've listened to the first half today, will finish it when I can. It's a lovely little album -- the good songs are good enough to make the filler enjoyable, and the overall vibe is nice.

I have always thought that you haven't experienced an album fully until you've given it the dark-room-and-headphones treatment. Especially Pink Floyd. Well, I did this album last night, and WOW.
IT WAS AMAZING, Y'ALL.
One thing that particularly stood out to me was 'Absolutely Curtains', which I always thought of as 'that track that has the tribal chanting on it'. I never really noticed the swirl of synthesiser and organ and madgic that preceeds the tribal chant bit -- it's apprehensive and otherworldly and makes the chant, which is quite exotic, sound comfortingly homey by contrast. Marvellous track, can't believe I overlooked it.

Another thing I noticed about this album last night was the more improvisational quality of the guitar solos. They sound looser, less polished, than the guitar parts on Meddle, Dark Side, or anything after -- even Atom Heart Mother sounds more rehearsed. I would guess that was due to the rushed nature of the recording sessions -- they were writing songs and laying them down, rather than playing and tinkering with them for months and months before recording them. As a result, we get a good listen at* David's improv chops, which are as impressive as you'd expect them to be. *Cause you can't get a look at a guitar solo. Right???
