Pink Floyd is a very recognizable name, and a lot people know songs like Comfortably Numb and Money, but when you are talking about the music with friends, what is their most accessible album. I recently turned a romantic interest of mine on to Meddle. I remember buying the Piper cd and being amazed at how the music sounded and wanting to hear more. I guess the most common way to turn somebody on is to play Dark Side Of the Moon through.
What do you think is the best way? Who have you turned on to the Pink Floyd sound?

I'd start with Dark Side and go from there, personally. There's a reason it's highly lauded, and also it's kind of the perfect balance between early experimental, early mellow, and later introspection. seamusthesheepdog posted this in the picture thread and I have to say it's pretty spot-on: link One of my band-mates had heard DSOTM and asked me for further Floyd recommendations, so I had him listen to the following, in this order: Wish You Were Here Animals The Wall The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn Meddle The Division Bell Atom Heart Mother Obscured By Clouds Why that order, you ask? I don't know. I just made it up as I went along -- I had no overarching plan.

My piano teacher doesn't like Pink Floyd. I don't know what to say about that.

My piano teacher doesn't like Pink Floyd. I don't know what to say about that. As I see it, one of the following: 1. Some People Never Know. 2. Pink Floyd is not for everyone. Ask your doctor if Pink Floyd is right for you. Never listen on a mobile device speaker, or anything smaller than an average boombox. 3. Oh wellingtons. 4. Nothing, and play 'The Great Gig In The Sky' some more, and rest assured in the knowledge that some people do know.

Eh, you guys know what I mean.

My sister is coming along nicely in her Floyducation... I caught her fangirl-squeaking 'I LOVE PINK FLOYD!' a là Loony when we were listening to Piper today.

I wouldn't purposefully get anyone into PF, I don't think they're a band someone can just go and listen to, you have to be ready for them. I mean, besides the fact I don't know anyone that I feel like I want to shove PF on.

Like my friend whom I've gotten into the Floyd; he'd already heard Dark Side and asked me for further Floyd recommendations.
