What lyrics really stand out from the Floyd catalog? Roger and Syd are two of my all time favorite lyricists. One that i've loved recently is from Mother
"Ooh baby, of course mothers gonna help build the wall"

Umm... is 'All of them' a valid answer? <.<
Okay, for a quick top five (or so): SOYCD Pigs On The Wing Bike Echoes ('inciting and inviting' particularly) Time
...shoot, that's not enough. Pink Floyd has too many great lyrics. I'll be back with more quotes!

Bike and Time both have fantastic lyrics. The lyrics to Flaming always get to me, especially on my first listen.
Five of my favorites
Jugband Blues Flaming Brain Damage/Eclipse Dogs In The Flesh [part 2]

I like the lyrics to Breathe a lot. Also Arnold Layne and Green Is The Colour's lyrics run 'round my head all the time.

Aaaaaaaah! But there's so maaaanyyy! Here are some of my favourites, just to get the ball rolling a little: "The paper holds their folded faces to the floor and every day, the paperboy brings more"From Brain Damage Everything from Echoes; though this has to be my favourite verse: "Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes Inciting and inviting me to rise And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning"And every single word of Grantchester Meadows (which is one of my most favoured acoustic pieces in the entire history of acoustic pieces). I'll be back with MORE!

^^ I love the imagery of that song SO MUCH, and especially that verse... I even had to make a music video (on paper) for it.

I know 'Brain Damage' has been mentioned already, but these lines particularly get me: 'The lunatic is in my head. / You raise the blade, you make the change / You rearrange me till I'm sane / You lock the door and throw away the key / There's someone in my head, bit it's not me.' Also 'If': 'If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain.' AND 'If I were alone, I would cry / If I were with you, I'd be home and dry / And if I go insane, will you still let me join in with the game?' I always think of Syd. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond': all of it, especially the last verse. 'Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far. / ... / Pile on many more layers, and I'll be joining you there. / ... / And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph, / sail on the steel breeze. / Come on you boy child, you winner and loser, / come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine.' Breathe: 'Run, rabbit, run / Dig that hole, forget the sun / And when at last the work is done / Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one.'

The lyrics to Jugband Blues,
Combined with the tune they're just great.

I think 'Echoes' might be my favourite lyric ever, even though I have no idea if it even means anything in particular. 'Fearless' is an excellent one as well. Combined with the music, it is quietly confident.

My absolute favourite Pink Floyd lyrics are the one from Breathe. Especially the lines 'Breathe, breathe in the air / Don't be afraid to care' I love to bits, if I'll ever be desperate, these will be the words, I'll repeat in my head, that's for sure! Two other lyrics I love are the ones from Shine On You Crazy Diamonds and Brain Damage, they are so comforting and the fact that they are dedicated to Syd make them twice as beautiful! And most of Piper has awesome lyrics as well, it's so great to close one's eyes and picture how with silver eyes the scarlet eagle showers silver on the people.

I really like the lyrics of Nobody Home at the moment.
Especially this line: The acerbic self-irony of that line comes so unexpected and also without an ironic subtone in Roger's voice that I'always blown away by it a bit.
Hendrix perm...That's just such a creative comparison, I love it!
Again, with 'surprise, surprise, surprise' the song's almost destructive self-irony becomes apparent. But just like the rest of the song, this self-irony is only apparent on second sight because it's in oppositions to the way Roger sings it. I really like this double psychology.
