Discuss the album here. This is their first without Roger, and Its quite good in my opinion. It still has very solid production, as do all Pink Floyd albums, however its lyrics stand out as well. I see it as an improvement to The Final Cut, and it is fun to hear Dave and Rick collaborating on songs with complete liberty, unsupressed by Roger. 'On The Turning Away' is my favorite from it, but I love the opener as well.

I respect that true fans hold their bands to standards, not just liking everything that comes out with Pink Floyd's name on it. Not every band can be as perfect as The Beatles, and its fun to talk about why. However, I disagree with you Floyd. I quite like it for what it is.

Learning To Fly! Is! A! Great! Track! In! My! Opinion! ---- that's all I have to say about the album for now (it's hard to say much when you haven't even heard the whole thing yet!! ) I'm planning to take a listen to this one soon (seeing all of this "I don't like it!", "I love it a lot!" is making me curious as to which side I'd be on). My prediction so far is that I won't like it as much as everything else, because (as some of you may know) I love me some Roger! And, uh, y`know, Pink Floyd`s Roger stream had run dry (all of the Water evaporated and left the group, it seems) at this point. So, um, yeah. I might end up suffering from Roger withdrawal halfway through... Aaaanyways, I`ll let you know what I think when I finally get to the end of it.

I don't mind it. It's very easy to listen to-- but when you're in THAT mood to listen to classic Pink Floyd, this will not do. Call the school master!

It's my favorite Roger-less album.

I see it as an improvement to The Final Cut, and it is fun to hear Dave and Rick collaborating on songs with complete liberty, unsupressed by Roger. 'On The Turning Away' is my favorite from it, but I love the opener as well. And that's precisely what I don't get from this album. According to someplaces, Dave had most of the keyboard parts already, and it was Rick's wife at the time who rang Dave and asked him if there was anything Rick could do on the album. As I said, most of the keyboard bits were already there, so there wasn't much Rick could add. Nick also claimed to have been 'rusty' and therefore focused more on sound effects than drum parts; all in all, it's just another brick in the wall it doesn't really feel like a band effort to me, more a David effort to prove to Roger and the world that Pink Floyd weren't dead yet. However, the following tour did see Rick pretty much reinstated in the band. To me, the true Dave and Rick reunion/collaboration PF album is The Division Bell, which I vastly prefer to this album (I expect I'm one of the few in that though).

Just finishing up this one. Way too preachy for my taste. (On The Turning Away sounds like a bloody hymn.) The opening song is really boring. Terminal Frost is okay, about the best song on the album.
This album would be fine if you didn't know what their older songs/records sounded like.

I dislike the album because it doesn't sound like Pink Floyd to my ears (and it's not just Waters-less Floyd, as I grew up with The Division Bell). 'Learning To Fly' in particular rubs me the wrong way; so many people like it that I've listened to it multiple times in an effort to like it, but I haven't been successful.
Then again, perhaps I'm being too harsh... I did only listen to it once, and my first impressions of anything are rarely accurate.

I've found recently this is the album I tend to put on when I feel in the mood for Pink Floyd. There are some really great songs, and every track has a nice feel.
