No thread in sight for The Wall. I just made it so we can talk about it.

Also, what is your favorite section of the wall?
Mine is the first 5 songs starting with In The Flesh and ending with ABITW Pt II. However, I love the next 5 as well. Especially Mother and Young Lust.

My favourite songs from The Wall are 'Hey You' and 'Comfortably Numb'. I'm not overly fond of this album, but those two songs are amazing.

Mine is the first 5 songs starting with In The Flesh and ending with ABITW Pt II. However, I love the next 5 as well. Especially Mother and Young Lust. This is unbelievably difficult to decide, so I think the closest I could get is sides 2 through 4... ...yes, it's that hard to narrow it down. (SIDENOTE: In this big space here, I tried explaining my reasoning, but it turned into a garbled, indecipherable mess of language that was in no way fun to read. Believe me, you'd be glad that I scrapped it. ) Anyways, I can't believe I never noticed the absence of a The Wall thread here! I'm sure if I would have noticed the lack of one, I would have added one in. Thanks much, syd gilmour !

This album kicks ass! I especially love when Roger mentions "The Wall" within songs. The last time I got into this record I was when I was first listening through all of the Pink Floyd catalog. I was a junkie for Gilmour's guitar and the screaming licks that he played. I didn't pay enough attention to the lyrics. This time around, I realize that every single lyric cuts deep. This album really is a masterwork.

I dislike The Wall and nothing will make me like it. One of the worst concepts for a concept album. (If this rant sounds familiar, it's because I've said the same thing on the BB before.)

My favourite songs from The Wall are 'Hey You' and 'Comfortably Numb'. I'm not overly fond of this album, but those two songs are amazing. I also love 'Is There Anybody Out There?' 'Mother' is also quite decent -- I wish all the songs were as good as 'Mother'. Listening to this album at the moment... I haven't listened to it since Roger's birthday but I suddenly got in the mood for it. I just LOVE the opening bit '--we came in?' *diddlydodadadada BANG BANG* and then your earbulbs are shattered by the guitars but it's so WORTH it! Also, is it just me or all the best songs on the album the ones on which Rick appears? (Apart from 'Mother'.)

I've finally figured out why 'Vera' exists in this album. It's about Father's death in the war, of course ;-/
It used to bother me endlessly, but now I get it. It's a good feeling.

Also in Another Brick In the Wall part one the lyric "daddy's flown across the ocean, leaving just a memory." The war is a huge part of the social statement that the wall makes and the story of Pink's life.

This doesn't actually sound too bad to me. I'd miss the Floyd, of course, but as far as substitutes go...

Happy thirty-eighth birthday to this fabulous album! (It's grown on me. ) My favourite side is probably the first. The best section of the album for me is from about 'The Happiest Days Of Our Lives' to 'Goodbye Blue Sky'.

Gave this the dark-room headphones treatment last night... WoW! That was an epic trip. I think I've finally, for the first time, truly heard everything that I'm supposed to hear on that album. So many details popped out to me, not to mention the overall flow of the album became truly apparent to me, probably for the first time. I guess you could say I get it now. One thing that stuck out to me that I'd never noticed before was that, in 'Don't Leave Me Now', the keyboard is panned bass left, treble right ('piano panning' I like to call it, as if you're sitting at a piano and the bass is in your left ear and the treble in your right), and in between right-hand chords in the right channel there is someone inhaling (chord) exhaling (chord) inhaling (chord) etc... As for 'One Of My Turns', well! it was better than a movie. If you've never listened to it in full stereophonic glory with your eyes closed, go do it. Posthaste. Roger's range on this album really blows me away. He manages to be about a dozen different people within the space of a few songs, and conveys their characters perfectly -- especially the schoolmaster, who seems to be almost deranged with the strain of keeping his walls up. 'The Trial' is of course the magnum opus of Roger's thespian ventures. There was something else I noticed too, but I've forgotten it now...

Happy belated birthday, The Wall! Thanks for that insightful description The Lunatic! Especially what you said on Don't Leave Me Now, this perfectly illustrates how important and effective a good production is. I've marvelled at Roger's range as well, after listening to this album for the first time, he honestly doesn't get enough recognition as a singer. But I have to admit, I've never done a nighttime-headphone session with this album so far which I now, having read your post*, really regret but I'll do this soon, hopefully! Thanks for the inspiration! My favourite songs from the Wall are probably: In The Flesh, Don't Leave Me Now, Goodbye Blue Skies, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell. *Almost wrote 'the book' until I realised it's by the other band, whoops.
