The first chord-change in 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', which comes a full THREE MINUTES (and approximately ten seconds) into the song, always grabs me. As does the ever-so-slight flatness of the slide guitar note that is held there, which sharpens up to the proper pitch about halfway through -- it's divinely perfectly imperfect. The thing is, if you didn't know it was the first chord change in all of three minutes (by which time many other songs have lived and died), you wouldn't notice it -- it sounds perfectly natural. PINK FLOYD EDIT: OOPS. It's actually the second chord change. (mad)BUGGER(stoblame) it! The first chord change is at approximately 2:30 or thereabouts.

The guitar run in Echoes near the beginning that seems to go in circles around your head. It slowly builds up to that high note and descends back down. Very echoey.

The echo of the line 'Sleepwalking back again' in 'High Hopes'.

The bit in Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast when the Rice Krispies start crackling and the acoustic guitar fades in.

In 'Have A Cigar' where the sound switches to a gramophone-like effect. (Have no idea what it's actually called.) But you know, the end part.

The bit in Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast when the Rice Krispies start crackling and the acoustic guitar fades in. I love that part, although the Krispies are torture because I love them but we don't buy cereal anymore. Your current status is one of the funniest things I've seen all week. TheVelvetBride I always thought of that bit as you're being sucked out of where the band is playing, and it turns out they're just on the radio ('in the machine', so to speak?). It's a cool bit.

Also the transition from Welcome to the Machine>Have A Cigar. I love how the mechanics transition into that funky riff to open the song.

Also the transition from Welcome to the Machine>Have A Cigar. I love how the mechanics transition into that funky riff to open the song. On the original vinyl, that would have been the side division (as I'm sure you know). So you'd have had to flip the record over during that interval, and the first notes of side 2 would have been that funky riff. It's interesting to think of it like that.

The drumming in the AHM suite (which I'm sure no one else cares about, least of all Nick Mason)... it's so punchy and wet-sounding, the way it was mic'd. Love it.

Sorry, that's just where my brain goes.... "I'm fixing a hole, where the rain gets in, and stops my mind from wandering, where it will go-o..." Thanks for the vid.

I've got two absolutely favourite moments in music in general. Two moments, which are so beautiful that if I had superpowers, I would transform them into people and would let them be the rulers of the world because those two people would be the nicest and wisest people this planet has ever seen. One of the two moments is the lap steel guitar solo in Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 6. When David hits the highest note I always wish he could take me with him to whatever planet he currently is on, certainly not planet earth as the music is not from this planet, that's for sure. It's, without doubt, my favourite guitar solo ever and, by the way, also a Pink Floyd moment which really grabs me.

The beginning of Apples and Oranges. Awesome. Or, actually, the entire song is awesome (like I needed to say that). Speaking of the opening, does anyone find the guitar 5-7 and 1/2ish seconds in strangely familiar, like there's another song with it or something very similar? Or is that just me?

This line from 'The Narrow Way': 'Passing stranger's faces show their sympathy, they've seen that hope before' is amazing, the way the melody dives down into bleak depths at the end of the line, just making the line sound really foreboding, like 'Uh-oh, what have I gotten myself into?' It's a solid piece of songcraft. ...Marvellous.

^...although I do wish he'd said 'And if you want to stay for a little while' instead of 'for a little bit'. Anyway, the slide guitar part in 'Breathe' right after the first line: 'Breathe, breathe in the air' *Slide swell* I just love, because it usually ends up perfectly matching my intake of breath when I listen to it. I almost always take a breath, take a deep breath now after that line.
